BACKGROUND

Ear,Nose and Throat(ENT) started as a division within department of surgery,However,in 1974 it became a fully fledged departmrnt of its own.
At its infant stage it was manned by expatriates anfd there were only three ugandans. The department is expected to have units at jinja,Mbale,Fortportal,Mbarara and Gulu; But because of lack of facilities and equipment,it has not been able to provide those services in the respective areas.

OBJECTIVE

The main aims and objectives of the Department are:

• To have improved patient care and quality of life.
• To provide specialist knowledge and up to the methods of patient management in the speciality
• Improve research methodology and up-to-date treatment.

FUNCTIONS

• To provide ENT services and interdisplinary consultations to needy patients.
• Teaching both undergraduatre and postgraduate medical Students in the speciality as well as Allied Health Proffessionals Involved in ENT treatment.
• Carry out research activities in the ENT displine.
